Disappearance by  Shishir Lakhani

Disappearance

The flow of life has its own rhythm.

Celebrating birth with arrival, struggles of existence are never far behind

Occasional ecstasy of the opium of prosperity… Salvos of clapping

Then

Those caring expressions that disappear … when your back is turned …

Shadows creep in

… and then, of course, the grief

The grief … of having lived and then having to die

Life was but a fleeting companion.

For a brief instance, the world stands in silence

… as though respecting your demise.

A void of … Lifeless terrain

A vacuum where you once stood

Like a wave that rises from the ocean

Glorious and powerful casting its own daunting shadows

… only

Only to disappear in an instant … into the inviting sea

Did the wave disappear?

… Or did it become one

One with that powerful mighty ocean?

Such rhythms flash through the mind

… appear and disappear

  Life is a constant lesson

Of our own conjuring … illuminating our ultimate powers

That final magic trick … we each learn to perform

that of  … disappearing forever
