Remarks by API President Alla Marchenko, Funding Announcement, Aurora Seniors Centre 20.10.2023

Good Morning Everyone,

I’m Alla Marchenko, President of the Aurora Philosophy Institute (API).

With me today are members of our team, whom I would like to thank for all their hard work and spirit of volunteerism.

The API is a non-profit organization, federally incorporated in Canada since 2019, working in the areas of community outreach, education, public policy, and research.

We are delighted to be receiving this grant for the Philosophy Project for Seniors 2023-24.

The API has many different projects and initiatives, but these adult education programs for seniors are particularly close to our hearts and central to our mission. They are invaluable in enhancing the mental health and well-being of seniors and keeping the mind sharp and active.

This will be a wonderful opportunity for the Seniors in our community, and for our volunteer team (many of whom are seniors themselves), to keep alive the ‘Spirit of the Agora’ in Newmarket/Aurora.

Thank you so much to the Government of Ontario, to our Newmarket/Aurora

MPP, Dawn Gallagher Murphy, and to the Minister for Seniors and Accessibility,  Raymond Cho.

It is now my pleasure to re-introduce a great friend of the API, the Mayor of Aurora, Tom Mrakas.
